Skilled Private Duty Nursing vs. Home Health Visits: What's the Difference?
While a hospital stay is an important part of the healing process for many ailments and injuries, patients are often discharged before their conditions have been completely resolved. In order to continue to receive effective care after returning home, many patients turn to home care providers such as Independence Plus. We offer two types of at-home nursing services, skilled private duty nursing and home health visits. Here is an overview of the differences between the two services:
Skilled Private Duty Nursing Services
A skilled private duty nurse can provide specialized care for a number of specific medical conditions, such as spinal cord injury, traumatic brain injury, cardiovascular disease, and neuromuscular disease. At Independence Plus, our nursing team can provide anywhere from six hours a day up to twenty four hours a day of hourly nursing services. They can also provide nutritional support therapy or assist with conditions which require dependence on a ventilator. In addition, a skilled private duty nurse can monitor patients to ensure that no complications develop, provide around-the-clock clinical support to patients and other staff members, and coordinate with the patient’s family and other care providers to ensure that care is handled in a safe and thorough manner.
Home Health Visits
To ensure effective home care during a patient’s recovery, special visits can be made by a variety of licensed providers, including physical and occupational therapists, speech-language pathologists, social workers, and respiratory care practitioners. Patients can also request a home health aide for assistance with daily tasks, such as washing, dressing, toileting, cleaning, and meal preparation. In addition, Independence Plus may arrange care with outside providers in order to provide dental services, diagnostic testing, intravenous medication, home medical equipment set-up, the fitting of orthotics, and primary care visits.
At Independence Plus, we are dedicated to providing seamless transitions of care from the hospital to the home for all of our patients, and we are also certified by Medicare in order to enable widespread access to our services.
